Going postal

Stupidity, Media No Comments

What a load of fuss is being made over the Royal Mail losing 14 million items of post a year. Yes, that’s a lot of stuff, but the media seem to be obsessed with that figure and never quite get around to mentioning the 2 billion items that are posted in total. Which makes 14 million going astray look like pretty small beer, especially since a good chunk of that is probably invitations to apply for more credit cards or opportunities to borrow large sums of money at crippling interest rates. Yes, the post is a bit shonky (as the stuff we used to get for a house with the same number in a different road and the Special Delivery parcels left on our doorstep testify) but is it so shonky that it deserves what seems to have been a week of solid news coverage? No. And the solution to this actually-not-very-significant “problem” is simple anyway - stop trying to make the damn thing profitable. Try and make something profitable and all that happens is that the people in charge try to do it on the cheap. Especially when there’s a regulator stopping them charging more money. It’s no good the Government getting up in arms about it - what did they expect? Muppets.

On a completely unrelated note, this is a most entertaining toy.
