So hang on just a cotton-pickin’ minute. Who decided that writing a few shonky novels or being a mildly amusing comedy actor qualifies you as a partisan political pundit? Step forward Frederick “Freddie” Forsyth, novelist and crazed Tory supporter, and Tony Robinson, Baldrick out of Blackadder, television archaelogist and arch-Blairite. Both holding forth on the TV, lending their respective celebrity weight (about two ounces each, by my reckoning) to the campaign. An unedifying prospect to be sure, particularly Forsyth’s brand of antagonistic right-winger-by-numbers upper crust idiot bollocks. Politics is bad enough when politicians are doing it. Eighth-rate celebs add nothing to the mix…
