Viva Espana
February 11, 2005 12:00 am Travel, BikesIt’s 5am and I’m sitting in Bristol Airport digesting a surprisingly competent (but unsurprisingly expensive) breakfast. I’m off to Spain for a sneaky MTB weekend, having spent an unnecessarily long time building up a new bike before, inevitably, being scuppered by component incompatibilities, cable shortages and all the usual stuff that makes late-night bike assembly a doomed enterprise. In the end I gave up and brought an already-built bike. Which of course had to be largely dismantled to get it into a box.
I was half-expecting a degree of check-in faff with Easyjet, but checking in preposterously early clearly did the trick. Unfortunately that means I’ve got quite a lot of time to kill and very few open retail outlets to do it in. Hence this almost entirely uninteresting post.
In a last-ditch effort to say something interesting, allow me to share a Close Celebrity Encounter with you - I was sat next to Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis on a train the other day. Obviously I didn’t actually engage him in conversation - what would you say? “Nice beard”? “Any chance of a couple of tickets?” So only a Celebrity Encounter of the First Kind, then.
