Broken News

I’m still trying to figure out if I found last night’s Broken News funny or not. I liked the idea (wide-ranging news broadcast spoofery, from US network to UK local), but I’m not sure that there’s enough of a joke there to sustain an entire show, let alone a series. There were one or two very fine moments (the rolling-news updates of nothing happening were particularly acute and I very much liked the information-overload Bloomberg-style business news sections) but not all that many laugh-out-louders. I’m not sure that it really covered any ground that hasn’t already been covered by The Day Today and I’ve a feeling that it may have fallen into the same “terribly clever and well-observed, uncanny attention to detail, insufficient quantity of actual jokes” trap.

I didn’t make it to the end of the episode, not funny enough :(

I quite liked it. Especially the random stuff scrolling across the bottom of the screen on some of the news programmes.

Wasn’t that the lass from Babylon 5?

I got bored of it rather rapidly too. Watched maybe ten minutes.

I liked enough of it to be happy with my half hour. Almost entirely derivative of On The hour and The Day Today, but there we go, there’s only so many new jokes in the world.
