Everyone’s a winner

12:20 pm Family, Media, Politics

I haven’t written about politics for a while. This is mostly because I haven’t written about anything for a while, although the reasons for that vary somewhat. Mostly it’s a lack of inclination although there’s a bit of a shortage of material, too. I’d be crackers to write much about bicycles in my spare time, for example, so that’s out (they’re great though, don’t forget). I’m trying to avoid going down the “amusing things that small children do/say” road - entertaining though many of Isla’s doings may be to her parents, I’m pretty sure that they’re not unique. (You can have an update, though - eighteen months old, running around, using adjectives, identifying parts of bicycles).

Then there’s my relative lack of exposure to popular culture and the mass media. Going to the cinema is somewhat less appealing when one of you is babysitting (although I did get to see Casino Royale a while back and it was ace - there’s an up-to-the-minute review for you…). Doctor Who is about the only thing I’ve seen on TV for months. I manage half an hour of Radio 4 most mornings and generally get to read Saturday’s paper, albeit not usually until Thursday.

A rich vein of blogging material it isn’t. And politics, well, it’s just a waste of time, isn’t it? Take these here local elections, for example (I know these have taken place because I got sent a polling card and even voted). All the parties say that they’ve done better than expected, the media says that they’ve all done badly one way or another and the public knows that it doesn’t really matter, council taxes will still go up and bin collections down. Hardly seems worth commenting on, really.

So in lieu of any actual insightful comment on anything, you appear to have got a load of slightly myopic navel-gazing. Hope it was worth the wait…

You could have skipped the “worth reading” part and had an equally (possibly more) valid comment :-)
