Orchestral manouevre

This just landed in my mailbox:

ARE YOU THE MIKE DAVIS WHO PLAYED WITH THE MAYNARD FERGUSON ORCHESTRA? IF YOU ARE CONTACT <deleted>@yahoo.com ROCHESTER,NY USA

THANKS
MONICA

…which has to be worthy of further investigation. Apparently Maynard Ferguson is a jazz trumpeter of some repute but I haven’t found an exhaustive list of people who played in his orchestra. I know it wasn’t me, but if I can find a reference it’ll be a valuable addition to the not-yet-legendary World of Mike page.

While I’m here, there was a tragi-comic news item juxtaposition on the BBC news this morning. An item about asteroid 2002MT7, scheduled to collide with Earth on 1 February 2019 with enough force to destroy everything between London and Birmingham (which happily includes both Coventry and Milton Keynes) was followed by a perhaps slightly less important story about the theft of the original Bungle and Zippy puppets from Rainbow.

The asteroid story was lent added value by a Lib Dem MP who’s name I didn’t catch being reported as saying that we should take “avoiding action”. It might work, so if everyone could please remember to start running east the day before…
